Testimonials

Autistic people and families face many of the issues that our platform focus on including anxiety, sensory, masking and meltdown.

Explore BAC own challenges before and after an early Autism diagnosis. The component of BAC story; a story of a young girl, born pre-matured at 32 weeks. Who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum at the age of 24 months old, she didn’t speak and didn’t seem to understand her family at 18 months old. One day, the health visitor approached her mom casually, while the little girl was playing (inappropriately) with the toys; advice that children with complex needs often play that way.

The little girl’s mom was shocked but grateful to the health visitor for the awareness and for being brave enough to say.

This led the little girl’s mom to contact the doctor and made further arrangement with the health consultant and paediatrician.

Fortunately, the young girl’s family have always been a source of strength and inspiration to her.

Her mother developed some strategies through researches on Autism and mental health. She then moved on to work with the National Autistic Society to gain more knowledge, understanding and experience in Autism.

Mum's comment

How did you feel when she was diagnosed with Autism spectrum? It must have been a difficult time?

Mum: I was devastated and felt lost. I was scared of what her future life would be like. I had so many questions and I was sad that she would not lead a typical life. Although there is a lot research on Autism in recent years, there was no proven cure. I also felt that there might be some stigma attached to it, so I kept the news to only close friends and family. But why hide it?

How did you decide what kind of therapy were needed?

Mum: Like all parents, we expected our child to make eye contact, start speaking and generally acquire new skills as time progressed. However, her progress seemed to be very slow and she started to become obsessed with circles/lids/rings which she would spin and watch closely. She could spend all day doing just that if we didn’t stop her.
